What Winter Does to a Dog’s Coat
Through the colder months, dogs grow a thicker undercoat to insulate against the cold. As temperatures start to climb again, that undercoat sheds – and if it doesn’t come out properly, it can mat, trap moisture, and cause real problems for your dog’s skin underneath.
This is especially true for dogs with double coats – breeds like Huskies, Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Labrador Retrievers, and Bernese Mountain Dogs. Double-coated breeds shed heavily at seasonal changes, and without proper grooming, that loose undercoat can compact against the skin, blocking airflow and leading to irritation, hot spots, and discomfort.
A dog who looks fine on the outside can be genuinely uncomfortable underneath – and most owners don’t realise it until the coat is properly worked through.

For dogs carrying a heavy post-winter coat, a standard bath and tidy only goes so far. Our de-shed service is specifically designed to get into the undercoat and remove the loose, dead fur that’s built up over winter – the stuff that home brushing rarely reaches properly.
The result is a coat that sits better, sheds less around your house, and lets your dog’s skin breathe properly heading into the warmer months. De-shed is priced at $60 per hour and is available for all coat types.
